U.S. Mail Carrier Found Not at Fault in April 19 Scooter Crash Involving Juveniles in Ashland, OH

ASHLAND — Authorities have determined that the U.S. mail carrier involved in a crash on April 19 that injured two juvenile females will not be cited in connection with the collision itself.
The incident occurred around 4:22 p.m. at the intersection of Orange Street and West 3rd Street. Initial reports stated that the juveniles, who were riding a scooter northbound on Orange Street, were struck by a U.S. Postal Service vehicle traveling eastbound on West 3rd Street.
However, after further investigation, the Ohio State Highway Patrol concluded that the mail carrier was not at fault. Investigators found that the juveniles ran into the mail truck with their scooter, prompting a referral of the case to the Juvenile Division of the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.
While the mail carrier will not face charges related to the crash, he has been cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
Both juveniles were transported to University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center following the accident and were found to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
