NORFOLK, Va. — Traffic is being diverted off of I-64 eastbound at 15th View in Norfolk after a truck carrying U.S. mail caught fire early Wednesday morning.
VDOT first alerted us about the fire, which occurred near the 273 mile marker, just before 6 a.m. Traffic was at one point backed up for 10 miles.
Just before 9 a.m., Virginia State Police said all eastbound lanes are shut down and they are diverting traffic while they attempt to remove the vehicle.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue tells us the tractor-trailer—which was a postal vehicle—was the only vehicle impacted by the fire. The driver was not hurt, and neither were any firefighters or other drivers, fire officials say.
