Rounds offers Postal Processing Protection Act to support rural mail facilities

U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) recently sponsored bipartisan legislation that aims to protect mail processing facilities in rural America.

“Rural mail services are a lifeline for South Dakotans,” Sen. Rounds said. “We must make certain that residents across our entire state are able to receive letters and packages in a timely manner.”

On Feb. 20, Sen. Rounds introduced the Postal Processing Protection Act, S. 661, alongside three original cosponsors, including U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Dick Durbin (D-IL).

If enacted, S. 661 would require the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to consider impacts to rural areas during its review process for closing or downsizing mail processing facilities.
