BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Local U.S. Postal Service managers are under the magnifying glass Thursday after a government report claims they put their employees in danger during the deadly Christmas blizzard of 2022.
That report specifically names the Williamsville and West Side locations for their slow response to the dangerous weather conditions. Claiming the units failed to protect its employees, also failing to comply with emergency preparedness and response before, during and after the storm.
“As a 30-year postal employee believe me, the creed is the creed. Rain, sleet, snow. I mean, we live up to that. However, the choice between making sure Christmas was on time or my members were alive was a no brainer to me,” said Dave Grosskopf Jr., president of the local chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
The report criticizes postal managers for their slow response to ‘life-threatening conditions.”
It says managers ignored warnings about the storm and told employees they weren’t allowed to leave the post office to get home.
