Mail truck catches fire in Portland, TN

Local mail carrier Aaron Embry who delivers mail around the downtown area had a most unusual experience Friday. While walking to his LLV mail truck, after delivering the mail to Watt Hardison Elementary School, he noticed smoke coming from the engine. As he got nearer, he could hear fire crackling and popping.

“My main thought was to get the mail out, and I had time,” Embry said. “No mail was destroyed.”

The burning mail truck created quite a scene, when the fire trucks and emergency vehicles showed up. Neighbor DeeAnna Edens said, “He was lucky to get out ok and saved the mail, too.”
