Hawley and other Missouri congressional members request audit of the USPS’ St. Louis mail network

Several Republican members of Missouri’s congressional delegation, including U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, are asking for an audit of mail operations in the St. Louis region.

“We’ve done one on the western side of the state, in the Kansas City region. Now I want one for the eastern side of the state,” Hawley told Missourinet. “I want to know why in the world people’s mail is not getting to them, and frankly, all I’ve gotten for two years now is excuses, excuses, excuses from the postal service leadership. (The) workers are doing a great job, but the leadership has been, frankly, a disaster.”

If approved, the audit would examine all post offices and distribution centers in St. Louis, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County.

“Listen, the mail delivery has been, frankly, just totally unacceptable. The post office has not met its mail delivery targets for something like six years in a row now, and this is one of the reasons that the Postmaster General (Louis DeJoy) has resigned, finally,” Hawley said. “In Missouri in particular, it’s just outrageous. Rural areas, urban areas — people cannot get their mail.”
