Confirmation hearings on nominees to USPS Board of Governors begin this week

On June 17, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is scheduled to begin confirmation hearings for President Trump’s four nominees to the Postal Service Board of Governors.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., will oversee the vetting process.

The Postal Reorganization Act (PRA) mandates that the board maintain a political balance, stipulating that no more than five of the nine presidentially-appointed governors can belong to the same political party.

To ensure this balance, the PRC requires that congressional leaders in both parties are consulted about nominations. The Trump administration may have bypassed this bipartisan process, and it has advanced what appears to be an all-Republican lineup. No Democrat was included.
