A USPS worker in Newberry County is recovering after being attacked by multiple dogs while delivering mail.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster says the postal worker, whose name has not been released, was delivering mail to a home off Pope Road when the attack happened. Foster says she is a longtime USPS employee who is well known in the community.

“The most important thing is that she did survive a horrible attack,” Foster said. “My hat’s off to anyone that has to go door-to-door.”

Officials say the woman was able to get back into her vehicle and call 911 after the attack. Deputies later took two dogs into custody, which are now being held by animal control.
