Mail truck catches fire in downtown Kingsport, TN

KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at 5:13 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of West Center Street, according to the KFD.

The truck, which appeared to be a U.S. Postal Service delivery vehicle, was parked behind the downtown post office.

“Firefighters made a stop on the fire before it extended into the building,” a social media post by KFD states.

The KFD has reported no additional information at this time.

Update: The U.S. Postal Service shared a statement Thursday morning about Wednesday’s fire:

“We can confirm that late on April 23, a postal delivery vehicle caught fire in the parking lot of the Kingsport Downtown Station Post Office,” said Evelina Ramirez, USPS strategic communications specialist. “The carrier, who was not injured, had completed their route for the day and no mail or packages were inside the vehicle. No customers or other employees were injured and local first responders extinguished the fire. No further information is available at this time.”
