Crimes against postal workers on the rise in Kansas City

An alarming increase in crimes against postal workers has raised concerns about their safety and led to calls for more enforcement.

Recent reports indicate that incidents involving damaged mailboxes and attacks on postal employees have surged in the Kansas City area this summer.

The National Postal Police Officers Association is sounding the alarm, claiming that the U.S. Postal Service has reduced its enforcement efforts by removing uniformed postal police officers from mail routes nationwide.

The association argues that this reduction has resulted in a dramatic rise in mail theft and violence against postal workers.

“Unfortunately, it’s not saving them any money because mail theft has absolutely exploded,” said Frank Albergo, president of the NPPOA. “And they have no way to combat it.”
