Private security guards have been dispatched to Colorado’s largest mail sorting facility just days before mail ballots will start going out in what the postal workers union calls an intimidation tactic.
The U.S. Postal Service confirmed to CPR News on Friday that guards have been deployed to Denver and other “key facilities” throughout the country to augment existing career Postal Police officers.
“They are deployed to provide security and act as a deterrent to criminals or employees who may wish to compromise the mailstream or potentially harm the people inside,” said Brian Benson, a spokesman for the Postal Inspector at the Denver Division Headquarters. “To maintain operational security, we do not disclose specific locations of security force deployment.”
This comes after the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this week blocked the Trump administration from implementing new restrictions on mail ballots — an important development in Colorado where the vast majority of residents cast their ballots after receiving them in the mail.

More money wasted by the Postal Service. Armed guards will not stop mail theft. Armed guards will sit at employee entrances and check ID’s. The Postal Service will be spending millions to address a problem that does not exist. Morons.
They’re not there for mail theft, they are there for mail-in ballots. It’s in the article. Our facility had strict procedures to handle ballots. They were given the highest priority, their processing through the Plant was considered so imperative.
If they are working the door’s I don’t think employees will be walking out with the mail-in ballots in their hands or lunch boxes – their main function will be checking the badges of everyone entering
