USPS mail delays reported around Kalamazoo prompt calls for federal investigation

Complaints about delayed mail are piling up across Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan, with some people reporting days, and even weeks, at a time without delivery.

Data also shows USPS employment has declined modestly over the past several years as part of the service’s long-term restructuring plan known as “Delivering for America,” which aims to consolidate operations and modernize delivery systems.

“It does seem that they’ve been asked to do the same amount of work, if not more, with less people,” Rogers said, adding that it remains uncertain whether staffing reductions or restructuring are directly responsible for the delays.

Rogers said the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing delays is why she recently sent letters to Congressman Bill Huizenga, as well as U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin, asking for federal intervention and an examination into what is causing the delays.
