USPS Issues National Craft Determination for the Parallel Induction Linear Sorter (PILS)

Please find attached the National Determination on the Parallel Induction Linear Sorter (PILS) (pdf) awarding all work within this machine to the Mail Handler craft.

The PILS is designed to process machinable packages and bundles. These packages are inducted on the system through a container unloader and feed conveyer and follows with the feed conveyer moving the packages to operaters who “place each package onto the sortation belt.” The packages then move into a six-sided camera tunnel where “the system collects the information needed to make a sortation decision.”

It is important that when a new machine is deployed into a facility that its memorialized into your current facility inventory. As required in the RI-399 Update MOU the parties must meet the last Wednesday of each month, and at these meetings you should add any and all new operations to the inventory. Any changes to an inventory should be sent to your RDRC member and also to the NDRC.

Please share with all LDRC members as management is deploying the PILS throughout the nation.
