US Postal Service to end discounted rates for package consolidators

WASHINGTON, Sept 11 (Reuters) – The U.S. Postal Service said Wednesday it will no longer offer discounted rates for packages entered by consolidators, part of a wide ranging effort to modernize its network.
USPS said it is entering new contracts with package consolidator companies that consolidate large volumes of packages for entry into various points of the network saying the prior contracts no longer reflect operational and financial realities. Last month, USPS said it is aiming to implement changes that it estimates will save the agency roughly $30 billion over the next decade as it works to stem significant losses.
