The postal service should be funded

There is an institution older than the United States itself that is now fighting for its survival, and too many people in power are watching it happen without lifting a finger.

The United States Postal Service was founded in 1775, a year before the Declaration of Independence. Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General. It has survived wars, depressions, technological upheavals, and the death of the handwritten letter. It has never missed a day of service.

Today, it is being quietly bled out, and the silence from Congress is its own kind of crisis.

The Postmaster General has warned lawmakers that the agency is at a “critical juncture” and will run out of cash in less than a year unless Congress allows it to borrow more money. ”

At our current rate, we’ll be out of cash in less than 12 months. So in about a year from now, the postal service would be unable to deliver the mail,” Postmaster General David Steiner said before a House subcommittee.

This is not a hypothetical. USPS suspended employer pension contributions in April 2026, pausing roughly $200 million every two weeks to free $2.5 billion in cash just to keep the lights on.

The organization has been bleeding money for almost 20 years. Former PMG Donahoe announced 5-day delivery due to financial difficulties, in 2013, which was reversed a few weeks later. The debt ceiling should not be raised. The organization has a bloated management structure that needs to be culled. Raising the debt ceiling will only allow management to continue wasting money and not deal with inefficiency.

Come on we have 4 Post Masters currently in our office.
One whose job was done away with, so they have to put him somewhere.
One who was harassing a female employee in another office.
One who is the wife of the current POOM.
And, the last who is the PM in an office 30 miles away, so she
comes in and runs it remotely from our office???
You can’t make this shit up???

I agree…

Favoritism, nepotism, quid-pro-quo, Peter Principle…these are all still alive and well in the organization. Upper management needs to work on this, too.

In addition to all of the things you and I have mentioned, the 2- and 4-hour offices need to all close. Many of the 6-hour offices could close, too.

Did you see the article about the new contract with Amazon? They are moving 20% of their current package volume to their network. Shouldn’t this lead to downsizing instead of begging for money?

L’Enfant has done nothing to fix USPS!!!
I recently learned that POs across NY state close for an hour lunch everyday to save money??
Why isn’t that done across the country??
Do something !!!! Make it look like you have
some clue!!!!
