Swannanoa post office will not include traditional retail counter

The U.S. Postal Service has given more information on what the new post office in Swannanoa, NC will look like, and it will not include a traditional retail counter.

U.S. Postal Service spokesperson Philip Bogenberger told Black Mountain News in an emailed statement that the new Swannanoa post office will allow customers to have 24-hour access to offerings such as post office boxes and “retail technology.” According to Bogenberger’s email, this retail technology will include self-service kiosks, a rapid drop-off station and smart parcel lockers.

During normal business hours, a postal service employee will be available to help customers at the wicket door with hold mail pick-up, package pick-up and “additional customer needs,” Bogenberger said.

While the Swannanoa post office will not have a traditional retail counter, post office customers will be able to complete most of their retail transactions such as renewing post office boxes; shipping and mailing letters, flats and packages and scheduling passport appointments at the self-service kiosks, he said.
