A Putnam County man who worked for the U.S. Postal Service died Thursday morning in Milledgeville after police discovered him inside his SUV following a single-vehicle crash.

Local authorities believe the man suffered a medical emergency before losing control of his 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe near the intersection of North Columbia Street and Pearl Drive shortly after 9 a.m.

Baldwin County Chief Deputy Coroner Ken Garland identified the victim as 55-year-old Willie L. Andrews of the 100 block of Chase Circle, Eatonton.

Andrews worked out of the Eatonton office with the U.S. Postal Service, but was not carrying mail at the time of the accident, Milledgeville Police Department Maj. Linc Boyer said.

Life-saving measures, including CPR, were administered to Andrews after he was spotted down a ravine about 30 or 40 yards off the roadway, still seat-belted in his SUV, according to Boyer, who serves as commander of the road patrol for MPD.
