Staten Island postal worker turns passion for toys into remarkable collection

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Rich “Rampage” Ryan is on the hunt again.

Stalking the aisles of big box stores, he strategically seeks out his prey as he inches toward shelves and pegs stocked with freshly displayed action figure packages. Spotting an item from the corner of his eye, he quickly pounces upon another enticing piece for his collection.

Ryan, 38, a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, has meticulously transformed a cozy room in his family’s Arden Heights home into a sanctuary of sorts. Unwinding after work, he’ll often sit back and marvel at the thousands of action figures and pieces of pop culture memorabilia he’s amassed over nearly two decades.

That collector’s journey progressed around 16 years ago when Ryan began searching specifically for figures based on six major properties: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Masters of the Universe, Ghostbusters, DC & Marvel comics characters and professional wrestling stars representing every major promotion.
