The Postal Service has announced plans to relocate the Babcock Station Post Office from its current location in the historic Federal Building at 32 E. Babcock Street in downtown Bozeman, Montana.
The announcement says, “The Postal service has been informed the lease will not be renewed at the building,” but it doesn’t say why, and it doesn’t mention that the building is under the jurisdiction of the General Services Administration (GSA).
The GSA’s decision to terminate the Babcock Station lease has naturally led to speculation (ss reported in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle) that the Federal Building is being considered for disposal.
The building was previously on a list of 430 potential property disposals put out by DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) in March 2025. The list had twelve buildings in Montana.
