MetTel Wins US Postal Service Supplier Excellence Award for Nationwide Telecom Transformation of Landlines

NEW YORKMay 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — MetTel, a leading communications solution provider, has won a Supplier Excellence Award, one of the 2025 United States Postal Service (USPS) Supplier Performance Awards, for implementing a telecom transformation solution to replace and upgrade aging copper landlines across 17,000 USPS locations nationwide.

The Supplier Excellence Award category is reserved for suppliers who have demonstrated process innovation or extraordinary contract compliance while providing exceptional quality and on-time delivery performance.

“We are very proud of this recognition from the United States Postal Service as it validates our commitment to offering a best-in class telecom solution and the investments to scale these services across 17,000 locations for the greatest delivery organization in the world,” said Don Parente, MetTel Federal Vice President for Sales and Solution Architecture.

This MetTel project involves converting existing circuit switched phone signals to networked multi-path IP, providing USPS with increased reliability, performance visibility, and advanced features at a much lower cost without the need to replace its current equipment. The updated transformation technology solution combines MetTel’s fully managed service and multi-carrier network connectivity with a state-of-the-art hardware unit from DataRemote, Inc. (DRI), known as “Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) in a Box.” This enables the USPS to maintain their existing analog phones and devices while benefiting from the advantages of IP-based telephony.

MetTel’s POTS Transformation solution maintains and improves post office voice connectivity while also offering additional features, such as auto attendant capabilities. In addition to the USPS project, MetTel’s POTS Transformation is delivering tangible results for other leading organizations including JCPenney across 660 stores and Extra Space Storage at more than 2,000 locations, eliminating copper dependence while enhancing operational efficiency and reducing downtime.

Following the Federal Communications Commission’s recent announcement accelerating the retirement of copper wire networks, U.S. government and commercial enterprises are utilizing Met Tel technology for their telecom modernization requirements.

MetTel’s POTS Transformation offers a seamless, disruption-free upgrade, integrating with existing systems without costly equipment replacements. Key benefits include:

  • Broad Compatibility: Powers voice and data for everything from fire alarms and elevators to ATMs, vending machines and modems as well as a variety of sensors and other applications.
  • Resilient Connectivity: Dual SIMs and wireless backup assure business continuity, even during outages – critical for E-911 and other emergency systems.
  • Significant Savings: Slashes telecom costs by 30% or more annually compared to outdated copper lines.
  • Effortless Scalability: Adapts to your evolving business needs, easily adding or removing lines and features as you grow.
  • Rock-Solid Reliability: Leverages low-latency, high-speed networks for superior voice quality and performance.
