Man convicted of assaulting postal worker with shotgun

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — Benjamin Joos was convicted in federal court Friday of assaulting a postal worker with a shotgun after he had been drinking.

Joos, 44, pleaded guilty to one count for the Sept. 24 incident in the Shawano County town of Grant. Sentencing is scheduled for April 29.

According to the plea agreement, the female carrier “was fulfilling her obligations as a federal postal employee by placing mail in a residential mailbox when she heard a loud noise and thought her window shattered. She then saw the defendant standing with a shotgun pointed at her and yelling at her to get away from his mailbox. Jane Doe stated that the defendant continued to train the shotgun on her after firing an initial blast. Both her vehicle and jane Doe were hit with the shotgun pellets. She suffered minor injuries to her arms which required brief hospitalization.”

Joos said he had been drinking, and had a BAC of .178, the plea agreement states.
