Man charged in deadly expressway shooting of beloved USPS mail carrier

CHICAGO — A Lyons man has been charged in a deadly 2024 expressway shooting of a beloved USPS mail carrier in Chicago.

Angel Reyes, 24, of Lyons, is charged with the first-degree murder of Damian Dunning, 41, of Chicago.

Illinois State Police responded to the northbound Stevenson ramp to DuSable Lake Shore Drive just after 10:20 p.m. on March 3, 2024.

Dunning, who worked as a USPS mail carrier, died at the hospital after being shot inside his vehicle.

Reyes was determined to be a suspect at some point during the last 13 months. On Feb. 7, Illinois State Police attempted to stop a vehicle that Reyes was the passenger in.

He allegedly fled on foot and an AK-47 was located in the vehicle. Reyes was charged with resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon with no FOID.
