LONGS, S.C. (WBTW) — The U.S. Postal Service hosted a grand opening on Wednesday for the Longs post office after a 2021 fire destroyed the old facility.
The post office became fully operational last month, but the postal service held an official ribbon cutting on Wednesday.
Seventh District Congressman Russell Fry was at the ceremony and has been advocating for impacted residents who’ve been without a post office since 2021. He said the post office is listed in the U.S. Constitution because it’s a core function of our government.
Fry said the mission behind the postal service is important and that it’s important have those services available to the community.
“When I was first elected, the earliest and probably most calls that our office has ever received, to date about one subject, was about the Longs Post Office,” he said.
