Mail delivery suspended in neighborhood after USPS carrier struck by Orbeez gun

A west Owensboro neighborhood has gone more than a month without mail delivery after a United States Postal Service carrier was struck by what law enforcement said was an Orbeez gun.

According to a statement Wednesday from USPS strategic communications specialist Susan W. Wright, the carrier was “hit by pellets fired from a BB gun while delivering on Texas Avenue” in April.

“After careful consideration, including guidance from the United States Postal Inspection Service, delivery to the Texas Avenue area was suspended until further notice,” the statement said.

Jeff Sagrecy, Postal Inspector and Public Information Officer for Kentucky, confirmed Wednesday evening that the Postal Inspection Service is investigating the matter. However, he said in a statement that “due to the nature of this matter and the ongoing investigation,” there were no details he could share at this time.

Sagrecy said the USPIS works with local law enforcement when necessary, but provided no specifics about this incident.
