A postal carrier who got into a scuffle with police last week and wound up being hit with a Taser has not been seen on his route since then, according to residents concerned about his behavior and health.
While those residents differ in their opinions of the U.S. Postal Service employee, they all agree on one thing: He should not be delivering the mail any longer.
The incident with the police occurred Aug. 11 outside the Lindenwood Gardens Co-op, at the corner of 79th Street and 155th Avenue in Howard Beach. It came after what several residents said was months or more of poor service and sometimes problematic behavior on the part of the mailman, Jerome McCain.
The co-op’s manager, Adrian Morgan, told the Chronicle that on that Tuesday he got a call from the building’s porter, saying McCain was harassing his daughter and cursing. Morgan said he went outside to find McCain sitting in the back of his mail truck, “cursing up a storm” and slurring his speech.
