Louisville USPS plant takes on more mail from 3 other cities despite federal audit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Just months after a massive mail meltdown that left people waiting weeks or months for packages, the Louisville processing plant is taking on even more work.

A spokesperson confirmed some mail processing has been transferred to Louisville from Knoxville, Tennessee, Lexington, Kentucky and Evansville, Indiana, as part of the Delivering for America modernization plan.

Back in January, WDRB Investigates uncovered video of the Gardiner Lane location showing bins full of mail.

The post office blamed snow, but residents said the problems continued for a long time.

Several employees have contacted WDRB Investigates. They describe the work environment at the Gardiner Lane location.

One employee who didn’t want to be identified said, earlier this month that morale as “very low,” saying workers come in looking completely drained.

“When people come in, they literally look like they’re just done,” he said. “They’re just exhausted.”

The processing center is currently the subject of a federal audit looking at efficiency. Audits are also being conducted at branches in Pleasure Ridge Park, Middletown and Iroquois Station. The USPS Office of Inspector General says the findings from those audits should be finished by next month.
