Rockford area lawmakers want to honor slain letter carrier Jay Larson by naming the city’s main post office building after him.
U.S. Reps. Eric Sorensen (IL-17) and Darin LaHood (IL-16), reintroduced a bipartisan bill Thursday — the one-year anniversary of a mass stabbing in Rockford — to rename the United States Postal Service building at 5225 Harrison Ave. in Rockford after letter carrier Jay Larson.
Larson, a 25-year veteran of the USPS, was killed on March 27, 2024, while delivering mail to his neighbors. Larson, 49, was one of four people who were brutally stabbed and beaten to death. Several others survived the attack with severe injuries.
