Former employee threatens postmaster and employees at Neosho, Mo. post office – Charges filed

On Nov. 1 a former employee of the United States Post Office in Neosho made threats to the Neosho postmaster and post office itself.

Zachary Earl Weaver, 39, of Joplin, allegedly made the threats and was charged with a terrorist threat in the second degree and harassment in the first degree.

“He was disgruntled and was sending the Neosho postmaster messages threatening to come to the post office to kill him and shoot up the post office,” said Neosho Police Department Lieutenant Mike Sharp.

According to a probable-cause statement, Weaver called a post office employee and said he was going to shoot the person he called and also shoot up the post office. After the alleged threats, the post office was closed to everyone except law enforcement. The postal employee reported that calls were made throughout the morning. Weaver allegedly told the person that he was planning to end his own life and that it was the fault of the person to whom he spoke.

Judge Jacob R. Skouby issued a warrant for Weaver’s arrest and set bond at $5,000 cash or surety. The judge also ordered that Weaver have no contact with the postal employee
