Federal prosecutors are recommending that a former US Postal Service employee in Northbridge be sentenced to probation after he pleads guilty Thursday to stealing rare coins and other items from parcels he had been tasked with delivering, records show.

William J. Paige, 33, of Duxbury, is scheduled to plead guilty in US District Court in Worcester to three counts of theft of mail by a postal officer or employee, according to legal filings.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors will recommend that he receive two years probation and be ordered to pay $5,100 in restitution, a mandatory $300 special assessment due at sentencing, and a separate fine “determined by the Court,” according to a plea agreement filed in court.

Prosecutors said that Paige began working as a mail carrier at the Whitinsville post office in June 2018 and allegedly committed his crimes in early 2022, stealing coins and a USB power sensor valued at a total of more than $5,800 from packages customers had mailed.
