NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The National Labor Relations Board has launched an investigation into a North Charleston United States Postal Service facility.

USPS is accused of committing unfair labor practices at its Cross County Road location, NLRB documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request state.

The American Postal Workers Union first brought forward these charges, which allege that within the past six months, USPS violated Section 8(a)(5) of the National Labor Relations Act. That section makes it illegal for an employer to “refuse to bargain collectively with the representatives of its employees,” the NLRB website states.

Case filings state that the USPS failed to bargain in good faith with its employees by “failing to furnish information requested by the union.”

The union claimed it requested clock ring records, which document an employee’s work hours. Documents allege the union requested those records on June 9 but were denied on June 30.

The USPS declined to comment, stating they do not comment publicly on pending actions.

Eight NLRB cases have been opened into USPS facilities across South Carolina in the last two months, according to NLRB records. Charges across those cases include violating workers’ rights to fair representation and refusing to bargain with employees.
