ROCKFORD, IL — What time you get your mail and who delivers it could change in coming weeks as the U.S. Postal Service consolidates more than two dozen local routes.
Lawrence Steward, president of National Association of Letter Carriers Local 245, said that the U.S. Postal Service is conducting route adjustments nationwide.
Starting June 27, about 30 routes in Rockford, Loves Park and Machesney Park will begin to change as the Postal Service consolidates routes and adjusts to vacancies and retirements.
“No letter carriers will be laid off as a result of these route adjustments,” Steward said in a text message to the Rockford Register Star.
Letter carriers are asking for the public’s patience as they learn new routes and managers adjust to the new system and delivery pattern, Steward said. Letter carriers want to “do their job safely, professionally and efficiently while taking care of their customers,” he added
