BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Congressman Jared Golden has introduced a bill to limit the closing of post offices in rural communities and increase postal service transparency.
Golden’s Protecting Postal Performance Act would prevent the U.S. Postal Service from downsizing facilities in smaller communities, provide oversight to delivery schedules, and increase public transparency on changes.
Golden says quote, “For years, Postal Service leadership has made explicit choices to lengthen delivery times, abruptly close rural post offices, and ignore inquiries from concerned citizens and lawmakers.”
Golden cites recent closures or proposed consolidations in Etna, Hampden, and West Paris as reasons for holding USPS leadership accountable.
