Chicago Mail Carrier Robbed at Gunpoint for Key in Washington Park

Residents and postal workers in Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood are on edge following a daylight robbery on Monday. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, a USPS mail carrier became the victim of an armed robbery perpetrated by two men. The offenders, described as African-American males around 5’08”-5’09” in height and donned dark clothing and face masks, approached the mail carrier and demanded their arrow key.

The incident, which unfolded on the 5700 block of South Calumet Ave. at approximately 1:20 P.M., escalated as the suspects implied they had a handgun and threatened to shoot the victim if not complied with. In the event the mail carrier was unharmed, the arrow key, which grants access to multiple mailboxes, was taken. Police report that the suspects fled the scene in a gray Nissan sedan.
