Finn Green works for the US Post Office as a rural carrier associate in and around Ojai, California. On a typical Monday, Green and other rural postal carriers deliver Amazon packages for hours without overtime pay. When mail volume is higher, such as days following legal holiday weekends and holiday seasons, carriers are ordered to prioritize Amazon parcels over Express and Registered mail, the US Postal Service’s (USPS) most expensive products. Only after completing the Amazon deliveries may carriers return to their regular route to deliver USPS mail.
Amazon’s recent statement about its relationship with the USPS presents a carefully constructed narrative. Since 2013, USPS has delivered Amazon packages through a program colloquially known as “Amazon Sundays.” The contract was up for renegotiation this year, and the stakes were high. Amazon brings in $6 billion in annual revenue to the federal agency, which is on the brink of bankruptcy. The 2026 negotiated contract resulted in the USPS delivering 80 percent of Amazon packages it had previously handled, an outcome USPS had no real power to refuse. Amazon, for its part, calls this a “long-standing partnership.” The relationship is not as mutual as Amazon suggests.
Amazon brings in 6 billion to the post office. Costs 12 billion for the PO to handle the package amount.
More of Amazon’s packages will be the last-mile delivery for rural routes. Yes, the narrative is very constructed at the expense of the Postal Service.
You are Correct!!!
I always wondered who was getting all the kick back money???
Dejoy? Stienre? Tulino?? Amber Mcreynolds??
And why has nothing been looked into???
Oh, right Congress does nothing!!!!
Rural Carriers deliver Amazon packages off the clock. Their route evaluation does not include the additional time to process, load and deliver the Amazon packages. Rural Carriers are the largest and most illiterate group of employees within the Postal Service. The labor cost savings is huge for the Postal Service. The additional wear and tear on Rural delivery vehicles also hits the carriers in the pocket as well. The NRLCA collects dues from these carriers as well and does nothing to help better the labor contract. It is no surprise that USPS will continue Amazon deliveries.
Got to be honest. We have 3 rurals in my office. They seem to be living the dream. They work 5 hour days and get paid for 8?? They never get stalked, they leave early. They never get inspected?? Never get forced to help out. I wish I knew about it before I took the job as a slave for NALC??? I thought it was funny, they all screamed about getting money cut from their routes?? But none left????
We had a CCA do one route once, and came back claiming it was 2 hours of street time.
The biggest scam in USPS is rural carriers??
