A man affectionately known only as “Mr. Fields” delivered a whole lot more to one Maryland neighborhood.
The longtime US Postal Service letter carrier and Navy vet is heading into retirement after becoming a fixture in the Sligo Park Hills community in Silver Spring, where neighbors are now stepping up to give him a sendoff worthy of his years of service.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by Silver Spring resident Adam Landsman is raising money as a retirement gift for Fields, whom he described as far more than the person who brought letters and packages to their doors.
“For many of us in Sligo Park Hills, Mr. Fields has been much more than our letter carrier,” Landsman wrote. “(He became) a familiar and beloved presence in our neighborhood.”
