We’ve all probably received gift cards or cash from friends or family in the mail. They send it, trusting it will reach us. But what happens when it doesn’t?
That’s the question one Maine viewer asked the I-Team after more than $600 in gift cards she mailed, she said, never arrived.
The I-Team contacted the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine, which is prosecuting the case. A spokesperson said the case is currently in the “presentencing” phase. Prosecutors are identifying potential victims and documenting losses.
Littlefield has pleaded guilty but has not yet been sentenced. The information gathered now will be reviewed by a federal judge, who will decide whether restitution is ordered as part of the sentence.
While restitution is not always an outcome, the I-Team found examples from other states where judges have ordered convicted postal employees to repay victims
