Fire Destroys U.S. Postal Service Vehicle in Douglas, AZ

DOUGLAS — A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier escaped injury Saturday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving caught fire while he was out delivering mail.

The incident was reported at approximately 12:14 p.m. in the 900 block of 15th Street, between B and C Avenue. According to officials, the postal vehicle became fully engulfed in flames within minutes of the fire being reported.

Paulian Duran, public information officer for the Douglas Fire Department, said the mail carrier was already safely out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived and had successfully removed the mail he was in the process of delivering.

In a statement, Duran explained that the driver, whose name has not been released, had just started the vehicle and began driving when he noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. The driver immediately pulled over, shut off the engine, exited the vehicle, and called 911.
