HASTINGS, Minn. — There are new calls for justice after a KARE 11 investigation uncovered the deadly case of a Minnesota postal worker who had a medical emergency but was arrested for DWI and jailed instead of getting medical help.
Community activist groups shared their concerns Monday afternoon outside the Dakota County Jail, where Postal Service employee Kingsley Bimpong was jailed on Nov. 16, 2024, for a suspected DWI.
Community leaders with the Minnesota Freedom Fund, Communities United Against Police Brutality, Black Lives Matter and other groups are demanding that all the officers and corrections officers involved in this case be fired.
The group of community activists also demanded the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office take over the case to ensure an unbiased investigation.
“It is unacceptable that you would let a man lay on the ground for three and a half hours until he went to a hospital and died, because you neglected him,” says Michelle Gross with Communities United Against Police Brutality.
A lawsuit filed by Bimpong’s family says Bimpong was driving home from his work at the Postal Service when he suffered a stroke
