APWU – President Trump Attacks on Vote-By-Mail Outrageous, Untrue

The American Postal Workers Union strongly condemns the U.S. president’s continued attacks on vote-by-mail and the integrity of the United States Postal Service. On August 18, he picked up an old trick from his first term in office, falsely posting on Truth Social that “ELECTIONS CAN NEVER BE HONEST WITH MAIL IN BALLOTS/VOTING.” He has once again resorted to spreading misinformation about mail-in voting—a time-tested, secure, and essential democratic practice that tens of millions of Americans rely on to cast their ballots.

The Postal Service and its workers have proudly and reliably delivered for the American people for over two centuries, including during times of war, economic crisis, and global pandemics. Vote-by-mail is not only safe and legal—it is a vital tool that expands access to democracy, especially for seniors, people with disabilities, military members, rural communities, and working families, and is becoming ever more popular.

Voting by mail has proven itself time and time again to be a safe, secure, and reliable method of voting. In the last national election, postal workers delivered 99% of ballots on time. The American Postal Workers Union proudly believes that every citizen can and should exercise their right to vote in every election. Any attempts via executive overreach or otherwise to intervene in a state’s ability to administer its elections are an attack on democracy.

Undermining vote-by-mail is an attack on the right to vote itself. These baseless lies are also an attack on the dedicated postal workers who process and deliver ballots with the highest standards of security, professionalism, and care.

The APWU stands with the American people in defending the hard-fought and cherished right to vote and the public Postal Service. We reject any effort to politicize our work or discredit the vital role we play in our democracy. The right to vote should never be a partisan issue.

We strongly and absolutely condemn these reckless attacks and call on elected officials at the local, state, and national level to reaffirm their commitment to protecting vote-by-mail, the Postal Service, and the democratic rights of every American.

Postal workers will continue to deliver—no matter what.
