Beloved Staten Island mail carrier retires after decades of service

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Rain, sleet, snow, heat, and even a global pandemic: Mail carrier Scott Simas braved it all over the last 36 years.

And as of May 24, “Scott the Mailman” delivered his final letter, choosing to head into a well-deserved retirement.

The Dongan Hills resident began his postal career on March 25, 1989. He was first stationed at the General Post Office on Manor Road before transferring to the Port Richmond Post Office three years later. It was there that he met his future wife, Gina Navarino, who worked as a window clerk at the time.
