Historic Plymouth post office, now Westborn Market, nabs spot on National Register

PLYMOUTH — A longtime fixture in downtown Plymouth is now among the ranks of America’s most treasured historic sites.

The U.S. Post Office Plymouth Station, 860 Penniman Avenue – which in 2016 became home to Westborn Market – was among 11 Michigan properties added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2024, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced.

“That designation isn’t just given, it has to be requested and earned, so we’re pleased and honored,” said longtime Plymouth resident Patty Malcolm, who, along with husband Mark Malcolm owns the building today. “The old Post Office building is a key link to Plymouth’s history; its preservation contributes to the ongoing, vital character that helps define our community.
