Backup in USPS sorting center causing delivery delays for north Alabama residents

HARVEST, Ala. (WAFF) – Tax season is in full swing but some residents in north Alabama say their mail delivery is in full stop. State leaders are saying a backup at the postal service sorting center in Birmingham is the root of the problem.

Harvest residents John and Audrey aren’t asking for much.

“All I want is what everyone wants, is to get mail on a regular basis,” John said.

They haven’t received any of their bills, tax documents, or bank statements in 10 days. John said spotty deliveries have been happening since October.

He’s been bringing these concerns to the post office since then, and he says the cycle keeps repeating.

“The next day, two mail deliveries, we got one in the morning and one in the afternoon, then… nothing again,” John said.

A USPS email in Audrey’s inbox shows multiple important pieces of mail waiting in Birmingham nine days ago.

“What happened to the slogan, rain, snow, sleet and hail doesn’t stop the post office?” John said.

But it’s not the weather halting some deliveries.

Congressman Dale Strong posted on X that backups at the Birmingham sorting center are the problem.
