Lehigh Acres mailman accused of stealing from construction sites

A Lehigh Acres mailman was arrested after being accused of stealing supplies from a home construction site on Friday.

Eric Renney, the owner of Green Sun Homes, saw suspicious activity on their security camera at one of their home construction sites, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 2:00 p.m., Renney’s wife went to the job site and noticed a U.S. Postal Service truck was parked out front and loading the vehicle with construction items from the property.

When she asked the mailman, 39-year-old Cristian Huarte, what he was doing… it became clear he was picking up more than just outgoing mail.

“She’s like,’oh, is this your home?’ and he [Huarte] said ‘no I’m just taking some stuff.’ She’s like, ‘well, actually it’s my home and you need to put the stuff back right now,'” Renney said.

Huarte agreed to put the stolen bags of mortar back where he had retrieved them.

After being caught red-handed, Huarte wasn’t done unloading. He drove across the street from the property and began throwing cement blocks and other construction supplies onto the side of the road.

The woman watched the disposal unfold and all Huarte could do was plead for her not to say anything about it.
