GAO says USPS business model, financial struggles partly to blame for mail delays

NBC Montana first told you about the issue last week. A USPS spokesperson told us the delays are largely due to staffing challenges.

We reached out to the Government Accountability Office to see what they had to say about mail delays, and an official pointed to ongoing financial struggles within USPS.

“We’ve been highlighting for a number of years USPS is struggling financially. We have said for a number of years that USPS business model is unsustainable and one of the potential consequences of this financial condition is challenges with meeting performance goals,” said director of GAO physical infrastructure David Marroni.
