Postal vehicle destroyed by fire in Jurupa Valley

JURUPA VALLEY (CNS) – A U.S. Postal Service vehicle making the Christmas Eve rounds today in Jurupa Valley caught fire and was destroyed, but the driver escaped uninjured.

The fire was reported about 11 a.m. in the 2800 block of Razor Way, near Hall Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

According to the fire department, the blaze, which apparently started in the engine compartment, spread quickly and was raging by the time crews reached the location.

Firefighters doused the flames in 10 minutes, but the vehicle and its contents were destroyed, according to a fire captain at the scene.

There was no word on monetary loss or how USPS officials would determine which area residents lost packages and mail because of the fire.

The exact cause was under investigation.
