Westfield mail carrier arrested for DUI after crash in East Longmeadow

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – A Westfield mail carrier is facing drunk driving charges after striking a pedestrian and a building in East Longmeadow on Tuesday.

The reports stated that the crash involved a U.S. Postal Service mail truck and a pedestrian. The driver of the mail truck had allegedly left the area of the crash heading north on Elm Street. Officers arriving at the gas station began to administer first aid to the victim, who had sustained serious injuries from the crash.

When the 22News crew arrived at the gas station, caution tape was seen around the gas pumps, and at least three cars had sustained damage. The victim was brought by the Longmeadow Fire Department to Baystate Medical Center to be treated, and they are currently in serious but stable condition.

Witnesses stated that the mail truck reportedly hit multiple other vehicles and narrowly missed crashing into gas station employees and other pedestrians who were running from the area. A witness who called 911 said she is not used to seeing incidents like this in East Longmeadow.
