A postal worker seen in a video delivering a large box of mail ballots to the Northampton County Courthouse is being falsely accused of wrongdoing on social media, according to officials.
The video, posted Tuesday night on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows a man dropping off the ballots at the courthouse in Easton. The person posting the video wanted help identifying the man, and said the man claimed he was with the post office.
The post, which has been viewed more than 5 million times, was reposted 14,000 times.
Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure confirmed Thursday morning that the video depicted a postal worker doing his job. His X account responded to the video, saying, “It’s literally the postmaster.”
Under state law, a voter can only deposit his or her own mail ballot into a drop box, unless they have been officially designated to do so on behalf of someone else who is unable to do so due to a disability or other issue. However, mail ballots also can be returned by mail, so long as they are received by the county elections office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, which is Tuesday.
McClure said that sharing the video without context is misinformation, and claimed it would be lying about the election process.
