Vermont Rural Carrier Associate (RCA) dies on the route

On September 29, 2024, at approximately 12:00 pm, the Colchester Police Department responded to the area of 921 Shore Acres Drive for the report of a single vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers located a USPS mail vehicle off the southbound shoulder at an uncontrolled rest in the wood line. Responding officers found the operator, later identified as Douglas Loso, 56, of Colchester, to be unresponsive and not breathing.

Officers began CPR and Loso was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling south on Shore Acres Road at a slow rate of speed and drifted off the shoulder into the woods.

At this stage of the investigation, it is believed the crash was the result of a medical event. The Colchester Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Colchester Fire Department and the Burlington Fire Department.

For more information, contact Sgt. Victor Bitca at the Colchester Police Department at 802-264-5555.
