MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -A U.S. Postal Service employee who shot a neighbor’s dog back in 2024, Rodney Wayne Lyon, has been granted an extension on his jail report date to resolve an employment issue.
Lyon was convicted on charges of overworking or mistreating animals and harassment with reasonable fear of bodily harm.
The sentence was 3 months behind bars at the Blue Earth County Jail and 3 years of supervised probation.
Lyon’s attorney put forward a request to move the date from July 7 to Aug. 1, to allow Lyon to determine if he would be able to perform his authorized work release during his 3 month jail sentence.
Under the conditions of his sentence, Lyon claims he would be allowed work release pending review of his case by his employer, USPS.
But Lyon is currently suspended pending a review of his case pending up to two months.
He claims if he cannot resolve the matter before reporting for jail time, he will lose his job or have served his sentence by the time the case is reviewed.
