USPS to retain mail processing operations in Chattanooga with no employees affected

In a change of plans, the United States Post office now says it will retain certain mail processing operations at the Chattanooga postal facility, a move it says was made possible by a proposed operational strategy aimed at increasing efficiency.

That push for efficiency is intended to save additional $3 billion per year nationwide, a USPS release says.

That release says the strategy, outlined in a request for an advisory opinion filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission, will let USPS absorb the cost of continuing local cancellation service in Chattanooga.
